School of Fine Arts
Our School of Fine Arts offers private and group instruction for instruments, voice, drama, sound production, photography and art with lessons for all ages conveniently located at the church. Our teaching staff is made up of high quality, experienced teachers who have a passion for students and teaching.
Registration for the Spring Semester is currently underway. The Spring Semester classes will be held January 12 through April 29, 2010.
Spring 2010 Class Offerings:
Individual Instruction $315
for 14 30-minute lessons
Class Instruction $150
for 14 1-hour classes
(class offerings will be confirmed upon enrollment of at least 10 students)
**Each Student is responsible for obtaining any material required for private or class study.
Course Descriptions:
Art 1 (class for children) – Thursdays at 5:00 p.m.
Teacher: Niki Parsons
In this weekly one-hour class, students will explore a variety of artistic adventures. From graphite to paint and clay, students will get hands on experience and an introduction to fundamental art technique. Each student will end the semester with a variety of finished works of art.
Art 2 (class for children) – Thursdays at 6:00 p.m.
Teacher: Niki Parsons
In this weekly one-hour class for those who have completed Art 1, students will be taught fine art skill development through more specialized instruction in drawing and step-by-step painting instruction. Emphasis will be on the essentials of drawing, value, color, and technique. Students will create several finished drawings and paintings throughout the course of the semester.
Art (class for adults) – Time TBD
Teacher: Niki Parsons
In this weekly one-hour class, adult students will explore a variety of artistic adventures. Aspiring artists will get hands on experience and an introduction to fundamental art technique. Each student will end the semester with a variety of finished works of art.
Guitar 1 (private lessons) – Tuesdays or Thursdays 4:00 -7:00 p.m.
Teacher: Austin Hobbs
Weekly 30-minute lessons for individuals age 9 and older will focus on the particular playing level and needs of the individual student. Students will learn the fundamentals of chords, scales, strum patterns and finger picking. Concepts learned in class will be applied to songs and chord progressions.
Piano (private lessons) – Tuesdays or Thursdays 2:00 -8:00 p.m.
Beginning, intermediate, and advanced
Teacher: Maria King, Suzanne Franklin
Individual weekly 30-minute lessons will focus on the particular playing level and needs of the individual student. Special attention will be given to playing posture, technique, scales, and performance practice.
Piano (private lessons) – Thursdays
Advanced, adults only
Teacher: Crystal Mangrum
Individual lessons will focus on the particular playing level of the individual student. Special attention will be given to technique, music interpretation, practice habits, and performance practice.
Sound Production (class) – Tuesdays or Thursdays
Teacher: Chris Forte
This weekly one-hour class is for high school students and adults, focusing on the basics of creating music using various programs available for your own personal computer. Microphone technique, sound mixing, effect plug-ins, recording, and editing are just a few of the topics covered during the semester. A project at the conclusion of the semester will give students the opportunity to apply everything they have learned.
String (private lessons) – Tuesdays or Thursdays
Violin, viola, cello, and bass
Teachers: Lindy Donia, Kristi Harrington, and Laura Logue-Poteet
Weekly 30-minute lessons will focus on the particular playing level and needs of the individual student. Special attention will be given to instrument care, bowing, technique, and performance practice.
Voice (private lessons) – Tuesdays 4:00 -7:00 p.m.
Teacher: Jennifer Freeman
Weekly 30-minute lessons will focus on the particular performance level and needs of the individual student. Special attention will be given to tone production, breath support, diction, and musical phrasing.
