UPWARD SPORTS

Upward is a fun, reliable, passionate, and encouraging sports experience for boys and girls, in K5 through 5th grade. Unique aspects of Upward include an evaluation system that promotes equal and competitive teams as well as a substitution system which allows for equal playing time for all participants. Through Upward, children are exposed to quality coaching and sport development. Upward emphasizes character and integrity instead of a “win at all costs” mentality associated with today’s sports world. Plus, practices and games are each limited to one hour per week. Your children will have the opportunity to participate in Upward Basketball, Flag Football, and/or Upward Soccer through the Family Ministry Center Upward Sports program.

Who can play Upward sports? Our program is open to all boys and girls within the community, ages K5 - 5th grade.

How do I register my child? You may print a registration form using the link in the table above (under Registration Begins). Bring the form and the $75 registration fee to the Family Ministry Center during our operating hours. We also have forms available at the FMC.

What is included in the registration cost? The $75 fee covers the cost of the uniform and referees. Your child will receive a jersey, shorts, socks and a cool end of the year award! Soccer players must provide their own shin guards and cleats. Football players must provide their own mouth guard.

What can I expect at evaluation? Each child is evaluated before the team selection process to create competitive balanced teams. Your child will go thru a quick series of sport appropriate drills to assess his/her skill level. Sizing uniforms will be available to help determine the proper uniform size to order. The entire process only takes 15-20 minutes!

We can't attend evaluation. Can my child play? Because we offer two evaluation dates we strongly encourage all players to attend but certainly understand when you can't. Simply complete and return the registration form with payment and you will be contacted by a coach.

How often will my child practice? Your child will have a one hour practice once a week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. Please indicate on the registration form if there is a night that your child can not practice and we will try our best to accomodate that request.

Where are practices held? Basketball and flag football practices are held at the FMC. Soccer teams practice on the FMC fields or at Hendersonville High school.

When and where are the games played? All basketball games are played in the FMC gym on Saturdays. Soccer games are scheduled on Saturdays at the FMC or Hendersonville High school. Flag Football games are played on Thursday nights or Saturday mornings at the FMC.

When will I be contacted by a coach? Your child's coach should contact you about a week before practices are scheduled to start. If you have not been contacted 3 days before practices start, please call Kerri Bass at 447.1353.

How can I volunteer? There are many opportunities available in our Upward program! Each season we look for parents to assist as coaches, assistant coaches, and referrees. No experience necessary - just a love for children and a desire to help them grow closer to Jesus! You can also volunteer as your child's team parent to assist the coach with phone calls and snacks.
